This masonry detail shows options for aligned and offset movement joints (MJ) across the brick and CMU wythes. In both options, the brick expansion joint portion of the MJ accommodates expansion of the clay brick, and the control joint portion of the MJ accommodates shrinkage, or contraction, of the concrete block.
