- Detail
This detail illustrates a window head condition where the brick and concrete masonry are supported across the opening by steel plate welded to a structural steel beam connected to the block with welded studs extending into the grouted cells of the CMU. The steel plate is flashed along the entire length, terminating with end dams on both ends (not shown). A sheet metal drip edge extends to the ends of the plate and may alternatively be notched flush to the face brick along the lintel bearing if exposure is not desired. Vertical reinforcement and grout are shown in the CMU cells adjacent to the opening (per design), and a vertical brick expansion joint aligns with the end of the lintel.
