Details 01.030.0322 and 01.030.0322.2D (Brick Ledge – Top of Foundation Below Grade):
In general, masonry veneers below finished grade are not recommended. When veneers are below grade, a drip edge must be used with the flashing to prevent rising damp or stains from grade, and help resist water penetration at the joint (Figure 1). A drainage material such as stone should be installed in front of the veneer below grade to help in draining moisture away from the veneer. The collar joint between the veneer and foundation or insulation must be filled solid with mortar or grout.
