This detail shows a masonry expansion joint aligned with the window jamb. This is achieved by creating a soft joint at the end of the steel lintel angle, then carrying the brick expansion joint flush with the brick return. The flashing forms a 1″ min. (2″ preferred) vertical end dam where it terminates into the head joint at the end of the lintel. The wall has a 2″ clear air space for drainage, and weep vents are spaced at 24″ o.c. There is an air/moisture/vapor barrier on the cavity side of the CMU, and rigid insulation resides in the drainage cavity.
