Masonry Detailing Series

This masonry top-of-wall detail shows the anchorage of a stone or masonry wall cap, doweled in place through the flashing, with a bead of sealant around the dowel penetration. The dowel extends into the CMU backup. The joints between the coping stones comprise sealant and backer rod, not mortar, for longevity and minimum maintenance. There is a slope to the flashing so water will drain out of the wall through the weeps and not migrate into the wall. The wall has a 2″ clear air space for drainage, and weep vents are spaced at 24″ o.c. Rigid insulation resides in the drainage cavity.
